Day one arrives in drops, not ounces. The kit is built around that: catch what there is, seal it, label it.
Read this first: The adapter in this kit works with the Frida 2-in-1 Manual Silicone Breast Pump, and that pump is not included here. Without one, the adapter has nothing to attach to. Sort that out before the hospital bag gets packed.
Catching it: A wide catch-all flange puts drops in the collector instead of on a nursing pad. Elongated colostrum syringes with keep-clean caps hold what you collect.
Sterilizing: The collectors come pre-sterilized and the wrapper carries an expiration date. Before that date, no sterilizing is needed. After that date, or before reusing a collector, you will need to sterilize it.
Storing it: Sealed collectors can be stored in the fridge or the freezer. Freeze them upright. Label each one with a felt-tip permanent marker and the ink stays legible.
At the hospital: Labeling rules for stored milk differ from one hospital to the next, so ask your medical team how they want your collectors marked before you hand any over.
